This is one of the best tips which you should follow for your preparation. if the exams are nearby, this 3-pool method can be very useful to do well in the exams and you can use this method to create a better revision plan. using the 3-pool formula you can divide your subjects or topics into 3 different categories - 

  • Strong

  • Average 

  • Weak


Create a revision plan and draw timelines about how much time you will give from weak topics to strong topics. Strictly follow the deadlines you have imposed for yourself. it will not only help you with good revision but also help you to manage your time. 

  1. Use Flashcards & Diagrams- Flashcards are incredibly versatile and smart study tools. They are small notes which help in improving memory and give your brain a quick way to check if you are correct. Aspirants should create and use flashcards or short notes about concepts, formulas, and facts to help them when they start with a revision plan. 

According to research, visuals aid is very much useful while revising or preparing for any exam. Students can create mind maps of concepts or any formulas. Having your thoughts written down in ways of flashcards or diagrams will allow you to easily remember everything in the exams. 

  1. Solve Previous Years Papers

This is advisable for every competitive exam out there. Practicing JEE advanced previous years’ papers will help you become self-aware of the question patterns and improve your performance. You will also be able to understand the difficulty level of the paper. So, time yourself and try to solve at least the past 5 years' question papers for better insights which will be helpful in your preparation.

  • Take a small 10-15 minute break in between your study to refresh yourself.

  • Do any recreational activities/ meditation/ stretch your arms.

  • Stay disciplined with your plan and don’t extend your breaks.


Remember to take at least a minimum of 7 hours of sleep before the exam. Exams are designed to test your ability to think, and being a sleep-deprived person wouldn’t help you. 


  1. Stay Healthy & Fit - Covid-19 has affected everyone’s lives both physically and mentally. So, don’t forget to look after your physical health and mental health. 

It can’t be denied that there would be lots of stress related to exam preparation and studies. So, take some time for exercise, yoga, or meditation whatever works better for you. Ensure to eat healthy food, sleep well, and take some time off for recreation. 

It will help you to do your preparation at optimum level which results in better concentration and enables you to study for long hours. 


  1. Stay Positive & Motivated - Preparing for the exams can be hard sometimes, there will be times when you will feel down or have a lack of confidence or stress about numbers. but you will have to stay positive and motivated to stay on the path of the IIT dream. 

Even if we share all kinds of preparation tips and strategies, it wouldn’t help you if your mind isn’t on the right track. The best advice we can give you is to keep pushing yourself until the end and the rest will be taken care of. Always remind yourself about the things you are good at, and remember, you are not alone in this.
